The flats are just like a 7 string guitar, if there wasn't that "weird" jump between the G and B string, but it would continue from G to C to F, instead of G to B to E. (I started out playing bass as a kid and that 4 semitone step always threw me off a bit. :)). And sharps is just the reverse. :) Bought the book bundle!

I want to go after this. But the second half of this vid... just looks like you are writing down a bunch of chords. Is this gonna make sense somehow? Does something in the book or the other training connect all the dots? If all these relationships are something I should already know, then the training would be over my head until I went off and learned it. What I’m asking is, will what is being offered in the mega sale going to make all this come together, or is it prerequisite knowledge? Thanks!

It was the one part I wasn't sure about in what I'd read thus far of the Beato Book I just bought yesterday Love the stuff you show Rick, one day I'll either be able to afford the ear training course or have trained my ear so much on my own thanks to your advice to do so that I don't need it anymore

A great discourse, but not suitable for the total novice, IMO. You should already have a sound (no pun intended) understanding of what notes, scales, modes, etc, are, and the terminology that goes along with describing them. Rick usually eventually explains all this, but in an order that may leave some scratching their heads. For example, starting with the Circle of Fifths will be totally baffling to someone with no music knowledge. NTL, every time I watch Rick's tutorials I learn something new with in the first few minutes!

Why do you have to memorize the most natural thing ever - 12 notes!!! I hate that (current) music theory is totally based on BS historical notions of how monks sang, band-aided over the years with the worst cheap fixes ever ( sharps/flats, ...) and they never changed the mess - forcing millions to memorize total crap. There are no sharps and flats - they are made up. There are no half and whole steps - they made that up. 12 notes ( 1-12, repeated over again). Why do we keep this crap? It is exactly like if we as took the English language alphabet A-Z and added random flats and sharps in certain places ( A B Csharp C, D , ..) and not to mention skipping things like the E-F and B-A and then had all student thave to now remember weird BS exceptions - do you know much harder written language would be - why then do we let music theory get away with it. It is the worst system ever - it makes almost everyone get some kind of dyslexia to music theory. It means millions of people who would be great at music - hate it - cause they have to spend hours on a complete waste of time memorizing ( if they even can) a terrible language system. In the western system, there are 12 notes, we can call them 1 to 12, we can then add which octave they are in so say 2-2 would be second-octave 2nd note. everything would translate with simply adding / subtraction - so simple ( and only one way to do it) . Do you know how much easier music theory would be? Fix it please. just cause you were tortured by it Rick , does not mean you should torture others. You are brilliant - maybe you should lead us all to a whole new simple notation system ( same music, same techniques, everything the same as you have here - just new labeling with no stupid exceptions to memorize). You would allow millions of future musicians to be happier with their lives. You would be remembered forever.

Like most music theory tutorials, there's a lot of what, some how and no why. Some people need to know why something works to feel like they really understand it. That's why, after 35 years of playing guitar as a hobby, I only know basic scales; arpeggios; and major, minor, seventh, and sus chords.

I love this concept of speed teaching. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to get to the more advanced theory. It sort of took a detour into memory and other subjects near the end. Maybe you could try doing a video starting at the intermediate concepts and see how far you can go. Either way, you are the best KGglobalr.

Im 25 minutes in and have no idea what you are talking about. I guess one needs some sort of experience to get the terminology you’reusing. I’d love to know what the f**k you are trying to explain. I’m giving up on this music theory thing. Just not something I’m going to pick up. I’ve tried so many theory, and caged theory videos I’ve watched now and they all use terminology that someone that has no theory at all like myself just don’t understand. Can’t even get a foundation to build upon because I have no idea the workds and terminology you are using.

Don't cite outliers. Don't bother with it if you don't want to learn it. But don't belittle those who will, can, and do. Please link to, or otherwise identify, the source of your Eddie knowledge. Thanks Rick, you are the best. I had similar issues as a kid. I had a loving mother and sister. They encouraged me. My sister taught me Latin at the age of 12. That transformed me. I can now also read koine Greek, French and Italian. I'm not great at speaking them but Latin was the key. Your emphasis on the keys in music is right. Keys are for unlocking the treasure trove of music.

You are so kind to share this knowledge Rick. No one has a ready to produce studio they spend this much time in... and is NOT hoping a person or group meeting your standards asks you to dust the knobs off and let's do this! I have my own songs. I'm trying to finish them. I want to be that person! (Don't go by videos on my channel though, that's mostly "marketing music" with no lyrics). Would you even if it was someone else? It would be exciting!!

I’m sure you are aware of the “real” fake book that has the original changes to all of the Jazz standards and differs greatly from the “Real Book” sold commercially. At Berklee one could purchase this official “Real” Book from Jeff Freedom on the Berzerklee beach out in front of the 150 Mass Ave. building but I am wondering if this book will disappear to antiquity without people knowing of this Berklee Bible of Jazz Standards. It would be an amazing addition to the Beato school of preservation to make this available before the world is subject to mediocre chord changes on the true classics. It might make a cool ancient music video resurrecting Jazz standard mummies to their true harmonic glory. I have been a fan since the 200k subscriber days and think you are the King of KGglobal!

Dr. Beato, thank you. I was kept back in the 4th grade because I could not read. Like you said, I could not remember what I read. I also, had a problem with spell; I can't spell for $h!t. Other kids and Adult would wonder, how can you know so much stuff, but can't read or spell. I can read and I can spell a little, but I can't remember how to spell some words ; or remember what I read two minute ago. I'm 64 years old as of January 9, 2021. You have explained what is wrong with me. I thought I was the only one in the world who had this problem. As a black child in Washington, DC Public School, I was classified as retarded (mentally ill). I fought though school by remembering what the teacher said as appose to reading stuff. This help me through to high school, but when I got to college I was screwed. Because, professors would say, in some of my classes read chapters 1 to 10 test on Friday and walk out of the class. I dropped out, and I'm 32 credits from a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. I am retired now; I wish someone would have explained or said what you've said in this video way back than. Instead of trying to put me in special education class or sending me to the principles office, or call my parents because I wouldn't go to the special education classes (with kids who had behavioral problems and other physical issues) or kicking me out of school. Only if someone knew about A.D.D. back then. Thank you so very much Rick (Dr. Beato).
